Marainanga Gorge Road Reconstruction

The entire road in this location was washed away by Cyclone Gabrielle.

HES Earthmoving was the lead contractor on this project to reconstruct it from the bottom up including:

• Earthworks - Installation of gabion rock lining with geotextile in behind

• Rip rap protection

• Geogrid matting installed as fill progressed

• Pavement construction

• Metal surfacing

This project involved working in and alongside a river in liaison with Iwi (Ngāti Kahungunu and Rangitāne), including the sourcing of river-won rock for the gabion construction at our suggestion to save cartage and supply costs, and benefit the environment. We also sourced the material for the armoured rock walls and fill for the project from our nearby quarry for the same reasons
